Market square

Turku in Finland is a lovely old town with a lot of interesting history. I am interested in history of Turku, culture, beautiful buildings and mostly of course pink houses. Puutori (Wood Market), my pink square, is in the center of Turku city. My pink square has the Friendship Park with bronze statue. Almost quiet market square is surrounded by small cafes and shops. Trading has varied over the decades there. In the 60s Puutori (Wood Market) was Finland's largest flea market place. These days, there's no regular public market but one dedicated association organizes various events.

Puutori, my pink market square, didn't have any value in the late 1700's, because the newly created Alexander's Market Square was located too close to Puutori. Still the real Market Square is much more important than Wood Market. In the 1870's merchants of old clothes came to the Square. In the late 1800's there were timber sales, that's why the square's name began to come Wood Market.

Later the area of Wood Market square was called "Accident hill" because the fire of Turku (1827) began from the hill of Puutori Square region. Fire quickly spread to the hill and the wooden houses in badly built areas. Turku is burned in its history tens of times but the fire of Turku 1827 destroyed the town almost completely. Finland and the Nordic region's largest fire left homeless 11 000 people. The injured were a couple of hundred and the dead 27.

I took the photo from Puutori, when I had my vacation in Turku. That white round building was built in 1933. First it was the public convenience by the year 1986. Later (1997) the building was opened a restaurant called Puutorin vessa (Puutori's loo/toilet). Puutori's toilet restaurant is the first public convenience, which has the official license to sell alcohol. Though I don't use alcohol, but the toilet restaurant idea is funny. Puutori's toilet restaurant is famous for its history, humor and cultural tavern atmosphere. You can see some celebrities from Finland there if you are lucky. The restaurant is also very funny tourist attraction.

Today the most popular events of Puutori are the events like the Night of Turku Arts, Book events and saturday summer flea market. Those events are popular.

Then very important pink news: The photo above, back of the round Toilet restaurant there's a very beautiful pink house. I would quickly move in there if I got the chance. In Turku there are many pink houses, where I could live.

Pink prom dress

In The United States and Canada, a prom, short for promenade, is a formal (black tie) dance, or gathering of high school students, held at the end of senior year. I have heard that The British synonym for the North American event would be for example Leavers' Ball. There are also many other names for prom all over the world.

Here in Finland the equivalent of the prom is called Vanhojen tanssit ("The senior ball"). It is a celebration of the fact that the 2nd year students are now the oldest of the school. The prom is usually held in February the day after the 3rd year students (or older) have finished school, after which they have a study break to prepare them for the matriculation exams.

I had my prom long time ago when I was 17 years old. I didn't have money to buy prom dress so I used rental prom dress. My prom dress was violet, modest but beautiful.

Lovely prom is almost every girl's dream. My school prom was not romantic prom. I found my lovely husband year after prom.

We started to practice prom dances in autumn. If I had the prom again, I would choose the pink prom dress.

Golla mobile bag

Golla is a Finnish design company, manufacturer of protective bags. Golla bags are fashionable bags for portable electronics. The company publishes once or twice a year new product designs. I've been looking for pink mobile bag. I love Golla design. I already has pink Golla camera bag and I love it. I think I'm going to buy pink Golla mobile bag (photo above).

Technology can be beautiful. I love pink electronics. Even if my electronics would be black or gray I can use pink bag. Pink mobile bag is waiting for me.

Pedestrian street and roses

I love roses, especially pink roses.

Turku is a beautiful city. University Street (Yliopistonkatu in Finnish), which is also a pedestrian street, is a pleasant shopping street.

Two weeks ago, University Street and Turku called me when I spent the pink mini-vacation, which I told you earlier. The city is still in my heart.

Pedestrian streets are nice to me, because I love city walking. University Street was decorated with beautiful roses. Those roses (photo above) are works of art. I hope you enjoy roses in the University Street, photo memories of my trip. I am forever a friend of roses and pedestrian streets.

Pink Paradise

Paradise accompanied by a wide range of issues, including religion and eroticism. Pink is my paradise. Heaven is paradise, and my paradise is a pink sky.

The most-played Finnish song is Paradise (Paratiisi in Finnish language) by Rauli Badding Somerjoki. That Paradise song is for ever pink song for me. Good music is a pink paradise for me.

Pink mini vacation

A week ago, my husband and I spent a wonderful mini vacation, which was so successful that I think I saw a dream. We went to Turku, which we both love so much that we could live there. Turku is Finland's most beautiful city, because there's a lot of beautiful old houses, which I never tire of admiring.

Turku is Finland's oldest city, and it will appear everywhere in Turku. I love the architecture of Turku. In 2011, Turku is the European Capital of Culture together with the Estonian capital, Tallinn. History and culture interest me in particular. Turku is a famous vacation city. Turku is also very interesting walking city. In Turku there are beautiful pedestrian streets also next to the river. Walking offers cultural delights and a good exercise.

We took 200 photos in our journey. Photographs are great memories. Aurakatu of Turku is one of the most beautiful streets in Finland. Aurakatu is my favorite street also, therefore, that the street has a few pink houses. Aura Street is my pink street. I took a photo of this beautiful pink house, where I could live if I get some fast money. Pink notes would be nice;)

Turku and Aurakatu (Aura Street) are like a cute pink dream. Still I have decided that I will soon live in Turku:)
